Amazon is a search engine for products. I now use it to find what I might buy, then buy it elsewhere.
Searching Amazon first:
- Lets me find a wide array of choices
- Shows me prices to compare to
- Helps me compare brands and sometimes find an uncommon choice
Once I find the product I think I want, I do a traditional search for it.
- Grab the manufacturer part or item number in your Amazon search, that can help you refine your search process.
- I have gotten accustomed to paying a little more. It feels good knowing my money is not going into Jeff Bezos’ pocket.
- I buy direct whenever the price isn’t prohibitive. Reward the supplier for doing it right.
- Beware coupon sites, some are bogus.
- I often look at Costco first, I would rather give them my business if I can.
- Another place I buy from is Dick’s Sporting Goods. I pay more, but remember, Dick’s got rid of their guns during Trump 1. I like that.
- I have ratcheted up the importance of this question, “Do I really need this item?”
